Type Locality and Naming

Central Taiwan. The type section is located at Lushan Therma to east of Renai Town, Nantou County, Taiwan Province. It was named by Zhang L in 1963 and introduced by He C in 1975.


Lithology and Thickness

The uppermost part of Neogene strata of Jiliangshan Mountain. It is characterized by the interbeds of black-dark grey mud slate, phyllite and meta-sandstone intercalated with lenticular basalt and small amount of marl block. Foraminifera and calcareous nannofossils are yielded. The thickness is more than 2000 m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Lushan Fm is conformable in contact to underlying Liguan Fm, and unconformable in contact to the underlying Dananao Gr.

Upper contact

Lushan Fm is unconformable in contact to overlying Bilushan Fm.

Regional extent

The formation appears in Lanyang Plain and extend southwards along Central Range.
